When a family is planning the gathering after a service, the questions are usually practical ones: how many people can come, what will they eat, what does it cost, and how much has to be decided right now. This is what to expect when you hold a memorial luncheon at Silver Shores.
Whatever your family calls it
Some families say repast. Some say funeral luncheon, memorial luncheon, or celebration of life. It is the same gathering, and we look after it the same way: a quiet room by the water, warm food from our own kitchen, and someone here to handle the setup so your family does not have to think about it.
What you need to decide (not much)
There is no guest minimum to meet. The only things we need are the date, the time, and roughly how many people you expect. If the headcount is still uncertain, that is normal. Call us and we will work through it with you.
What is on the table
Every lunch buffet includes housemade rolls with butter, freshly brewed coffee, hot tea and assorted soda. You choose one salad, one starch, one vegetable, one pasta with sauce, and two entrees, from options like lemon feta chicken, chicken piccata, braised beef and Swedish meatballs over egg noodles. Families who want table service can add family-style service, and a brunch-style gathering can add a made-to-order omelet station or a mimosa bar. The full memorial luncheon menu lists every option.
What it costs
The lunch buffet is $23.99 per person. Room rental is $250, sold in three-hour blocks. All prices are subject to a 20% service fee and 6% Michigan sales tax. Because the pricing is published, you can estimate the cost of the gathering before you ever call.
Personal touches
Rooms are set with tables, chairs and white linens, and families are welcome to arrive before the start time to set out photos, a memory table or anything else you want to share. Our own kitchen and staff serve the meal and clear the room, so the family can simply be with each other.
Getting here
Silver Shores is at 1 James DeSana Dr in Wyandotte, on the Detroit River, behind Wyandotte Hospital. There is ample parking on site, which matters when guests are arriving from a service elsewhere and some are older or less mobile.
When you are ready
Call (734) 246-4800 and we will walk through it with you, gently and without pressure, or send us the date and an approximate headcount and we will reply with menus within 24 hours.
